Adsorption of Cadmium(ii) Ions from Aqueous Solution by Tectona Grandis L.f. (teak Leaves Powder)

چکیده
Batch adsorption studies were undertaken with the abundantly available waste biosorbent Tectona grandis L.f. leaf powder for removal of cadmium(II) from aqueous solutions. The adsorption experiments were performed under various conditions such as time, temperature, different initial Cd(II) concentrations, pH, adsorbent dosage, and adsorbent particle size. The data showed that in 30 minutes, 1 g of Tectona grandis L.f. could remove 86.73% of cadmium(II) from 50 mL aqueous solution containing 100 mg L of Cd. The isothermal data fitted well to both Langmuir and Freundlich models for Cd(II) adsorption on Tectona grandis L.f. Using the Langmuir model equation, the monolayer sorption capacity of Tectona grandis L.f. was evaluated to be 29.94 mg g. The optimum pH value was found to be 5.5. The pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were used to describe the kinetic data. The dynamic data fitted well to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Cd(II) adsorption was only marginally affected in the temperature range of 30 to 50C. An SEM of Cd(II) loaded powder showed formation of agglomerates. The FTIR of Cd(II) loaded powder showed negative shift in the wave numbers.

Removal of Cadmium and Lead Ions from Aqueous Solution by Nanocrystalline Magnetite Through Mechanochemical Activation
In this study, the removal of cadmium and lead ions from aqueous solution by nanocrystalline magnetite was investigated. The nanocrystalline magnetite was synthesized by mechanochemical activation of hematite in a high energy planetary mill in argon atmosphere for 45 hours. The ability of the synthesized nanocrystalline magnetite for removal of Cd(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solutions was studi...
متن کاملRemoval of Pb(II) and Cu(II) Ions from Aqueous Solutions by Cadmium Sulfide Nanoparticles
In this study, cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdS NPs) were prepared, characterized and used as a new adsorbent for simultaneous removal of Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions. Using a batch adsorption method, the effects of solution pH, contact time, adsorbent dose, and temperature were studied and optimized. Removal efficiencies, higher than 98% were obtained for both the met...
متن کاملEstablishment of endomycorrhizal fungi on micropropagated teak (Tectona grandis L.f.)
Background Commercial micropropagation of teak (Tectona grandisL.f.) has been achieved for a number of years in countries such as Thailand, India and Malaysia. This has led to the availability of elite genotypes for large scale plantation production. Teak has been shown to develop arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal associations [1], and this has been attributed to increasing productivity [2]. I...
متن کاملComparison of biosorption of cadmium ions from aqueous solutions by the lichens Acarospora strigata, Lecanora muralis and Caloplaca aurantia
Introduction: Biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. Also, living lichens are known to accumulate metals across their surface. Materials and methods: In this study, the biosorption of cadmium ions Cd (II) by the lichens Acarospora strigata, Lecanora muralis and Caloplaca aurantia was investigated in aqueous solution i...
متن کاملEffect of Thinning on Stem Form and Wood Characteristics of Teak (Tectona grandis) in a Humid Tropical Site in Costa Rica
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of thinning intensity on wood properties, such as heartwood proportion, wood basic density, and stem form of teak (Tectona grandis L.f.). The thinning trial was established on a teak plantation in a humid tropical site in northern Costa Rica. The moderate and heavy thinnings yielded the highest percentage of heartwood volume (25 to 30% of total s...
